POLICE in the Bognor Regis area are continuing to tackle cycle thefts with marking events.
The bike marking events will take place across Arun throughout this month (April) and next month following the successful events during January.
Operation Velo was launched in West Sussex at the beginning of the year in an attempt to reduce the number of bicycles stolen from across the county.
The scheme uses a new way of marking and registering bikes, and Sussex Police has been hosting the free events at locations where officers have been marking, registering and offering advice about the best way to secure cycles.
PC Tim Jose, who works on Operation Velo, said: “Each bicycle is marked using an anti-tamper label and the owner’s details are registered on a national database, much like that which is used for cars and motorbikes.
“Officers will be able to check if a bicycle is stolen or in the wrong hands within minutes of stopping the rider.
“Cyclists will be able to come along to the events and speak to the team about registering their bicycle and to get advice about different types of locks.”

•Thursday, April 25 from 3pm to 6pm in the High Street.
•Sunday, April 28 from 11am to 2pm at the Arun Leisure Centre in Felpham.
