Crime fighters seek new chairman to lead them

A NEW chairman is being sought for a group which helps to keep homes around Bognor Regis safer.

The town’s Neighbourhood Watch association needs a figurehead to lead its fight against crime.

The group has more than 250 volunteers looking after thousands of homes. But they are seeking someone who can champion their efforts.

Sharon Westcott, the office and communication manager for Voluntary Action Arun and Chichester, has agreed to promote the role.

She said: “It is so important to our community that Neighbourhood Watch is available so I hope we can help to find a leader soon.”

Apart from chairing meetings, the new chairman will have the energy and enthusiasm to help to lead the organisation forward by promoting its activities and building strong relationships with its partners.

The association has been active in Bognor for more than 30 years. Its network of volunteer co-ordinators help to create a community that cares to ensure people don’t feel afraid, vulnerable or isolated.

This is achieved by preventing or reducing the fear of crime, looking out for bogus callers and warning neighbours about scams.

The association’s secretary since 2009 has been John Holman. His involvement as a street co-ordinator dates back 15 years and he is part of an experienced committee of co-ordinators. Contact him on 01243 583057 for more details.
