TAKING wickets will raise funds for young families struggling to cope across the Bognor Regis area.

Arun District Council’s chairman Terence Chapman will hold a charity cricket match to raise funds for his chosen charity Home-Start Arun – a local charity supporting parents of young families.

Cllr Chapman said: “I am proud to be raising funds for Home-Start Arun – family is so important.

“My priorities are family, community and country and these three priorities link together, which is why I chose Home-Start Arun as my charity for my year of office.

“I want to raise as much money as I can for them.”

Home-Start Arun volunteers provide support to parents across the district who find it difficult to cope with their young family.

These young families may be facing loneliness and isolation, relationship difficulties, ill health, or even coping with bereavement.

The volunteers are people from different backgrounds and vary in age, but they all have parenting experience.

All volunteers are carefully selected for their friendliness, practical approach and understanding, and they provide a completely confidential service.

Arun’s chief executive Nigel Lynn said: “I am delighted to support the chairman with this charity fundraiser which promises to be a really family-orientated, fun afternoon and a great way to raise funds for the chairman’s charity”.

The fundraiser will be held on Sunday, September 1, at Arundel Cricket Club.

The highlight looks set to be a match between the Arun councillors XI versus the Arun officers XI.

Both of the teams have been specially created for the event and the competition between them is expected to be fierce.

Spectators at the ticket-only event will also be treated to a great afternoon of cricket plus afternoon tea, free parking and a souvenir programme.

Tickets cost £5 per person and £2 for children under 16.

A Go Batty for Charity Raffle will also be held.

Volunteers from Home-Start Arun will be on hand all afternoon to chat to.

A cash bar will also be available.

The event is first come, first served, so if you are interested in attending, email lynn.haymes@arun.gov.uk for further details.
