A Green Party councillor is lobbying for a car-free day.

Chichester’s Green Party councillor Sarah Sharp delivered a presentation on the car-free day concept to Chichester City Council’s planning and conservation committee.

Cllr Sharp said: “A car free day offers residents, tourists and shoppers the opportunity to experience what spaces within the city walls could feel like without HGV deliveries which take place on average every three minutes in the city centre, without the congestion, pollution, pedestrian and cyclist danger we undergo every day on our narrow, Roman, streetscape.

“Opening up the city to people will offer us opportunities to enhance sustainable economic growth and add healthy, vibrant places to our street scene.”

Cllr Sharp said a park and ride would need to be offered to visitors to the city and added the day could take place in September 2016 or 2017.
