THE childrens’ ward in St Richard’s Hospital has been given ten new fans thanks to generous businesses.

Four businesses came together to help charity Love Your Hospital to source special fans for the ward as the hot weather approached.

Luv Carpets, LR Collections Ltd, Business Pulse and a silent sponsor pitched in to purchase the new fans.

Jack Keywood, who runs Luv Carpets, said: “The main reason I do it is I have two young children myself, and if anything was wrong with them, this is going to be the first place they come.

“Other children’s charities have so much support already. I know the NHS cannot afford to fund everything, it’s impossible.”

Nicola Godwin of Love Your Hospital said the hospital needed a particular kind of fan, which is industrial, has no blades, but is powerful, to keep the wards cool.

These fans are expensive, so the help of the sponsors was vital in getting equipment which seems small, but is essential to the patients’ comfort.

The charity is now giving out sponsor awards, to businesses which help the charity, in the form of a silver, gold or platinum medal.

Nurse Shelley Hill, said the sponsors also helped to fund items on the children’s ward ‘wish list’, where children suggest toys and gadgets they would like to see in the hospital, especially if they are staying for long-term care.

“It is always nice for them to have new things,” she said.

Sponsor Khaled Kahn, said: “LR Collections Ltd is proud to support our local hospital and Love Your Hospital charity. Making a small contribution can make a huge difference and comfort to the lives of the young children at the Howard Ward of St. Richard’s Hospital.

“It is the good work of charities such as these that continue to play a vital role in supporting the patients, families and staff by providing essential equipment and facilities that might not otherwise be provided by statutory funding.”

Nasser Elaheebocus of Business Pulse said: “It is a privilege to be working with Nicola and her team at Love Your Hospital in raising monies for such a good local charity.

“Nicola and her team go out of their way to involve local businesses and communities, but are acutely aware of the financial pressures those companies find themselves in today’s economic climate.”

Love your Hospital is always looking for new sponsors to help support St Richard’s Hospital with projects and much-needed equipment which isn’t funded by the NHS.
