BLOOMING beautiful blooms have been celebrated in Bersted.

The award ceremony for Bersted in Bloom 2013 took place last Saturday.

The event, was held at the Chalcroft Nurseries and Garden Centre, and was a celebration of the marvellous efforts of the green-fingered entrants.

The competition was run by the community action committee on behalf of Bersted Parish Council.

The idea behind it was to put Bersted on the map and create a welcoming and colourful environment for residents and visitors alike.

It was also hoped the mass of blooms would make plenty of bees happy and help to boost their numbers.

The difficult job of picking the winners was given to judges Pat Alderton from the Bognor Regis and District Horticultural Society, Roxanne Saunders, from Chalcroft Nurseries and Bersted parish councillor Brian Green.

Fellow councillor Philippa Seager welcomed everyone to the event and thanked entrants, judges and Chalcroft Nurseries for making the competition a success

Patrick Hastings, the parish council’s chairman was also on hand to present the awards.

First place went to Janet Hogben, Michelle Drablow scooped second with Ann Canfer coming in third.

Highly commended went to Gill Boon and Jean Thompson and Trudy Evans both gained commended.
