Charity well on seafront is given go-ahead

A CHARITY wishing well is to be sited on Bognor Regis seafront.

The town’s two Rotary clubs have received planning approval to install the structure on the promenade, close to the foreshore station.

It will be located opposite Kings Court in the middle of two benches between
the station and an ice
cream kiosk.

The well will be 2.5m high and 900mm wide. It will be used to collect donations for the club’s charitable work locally and overseas.

Arun District Council planning officer Sue Leeson says in her report: “The proposed wishing well
charity collection point is designed within the Victorian livery required for the seafront.”

Bognor Regis Town Council objected to the plan. Its members feared the well would make the seafront look cluttered and set a precedent.

They were also concerned it could encourage littering and attract other anti-social behaviour.

But the councillors stressed their support for work done by the Rotarians.
