New future may be given to Bognor shop
A NEW lease of life could be given to an empty shop.
The unit at 46-48 High Street, Bognor Regis is set to be divided into two. Owner Kracke and Davies has applied for planning permission to Arun District Council to carry out the work.
The company says in a statement the property – last used for a temporary Christmas shop – was difficult to let in its present size.
“The intention of the proposal is that the reduction in floor area will encourage new tenants for the shop and the rejuvenated space will become more economically viable offering reduced business rates and updated facilities.
“The shop is currently empty and has been for some time. The high business rates have made it very difficult to encourage new businesses to take this space,” it states.
The bigger of the two proposed shops will have 117sq m of gross internal floorspace. The smaller will have an area of 90sq m.
The retailing area is on the ground floor of a three-storey building which dates from the Seventies. Few alterations to it have been proposed.

Monday, February 20, 2012 at 11:07 AMWhy have high business rates and no tenants, when you can have low business rates and at least some income - It seems that common sense has finally been killed off !!! Still I suppose it's not going to be converted into a flat (well not yet !)
