Go-ahead for new store

RENEWED planning approval has been granted for a new store on Bognor Regis Retail Park.

Zurich Assurance received the permission valid for another three years for the unit at the Shripney Road site.

The go-ahead was given by Arun District Council senior planning officer Cian Cronin.

He said there had been no change of circumstances to reverse the original, unimplemented permission for three years given in 2009.

“The proposal is restricted to the sale of bulky goods. A retailer such as this located in an out-of-town-centre location is likely to compete with other out-of-centre locations,” he stated in his decision report.

“The proposal will have a neutral effect on consumer choice and trade in the town centre...”

The store would have ground and mezzanine floors with a total sales area of 1,634sq m. Zurich predict its annual turnover would be just over £3m or £2,500 each square metre.

It would be built in front of the Matalan store.
