A BOGNOR Regis teenager has been arrested after a series of small fires were started at a church and health centre.

Officers and firefighters were called after piles of paper were used to start fires at St Mary’s Church in Shoreham and at Shoreham Health Centre.

The 17-year-old girl from the town has been arrested and questioned on suspicion of arson.

She has been released on bail until November 14 to allow further inquiries to take place.

PC Chris Bartram said: “Although there was very little damage caused in these incidents they had the potential to cause huge disruption in the area.

“All of the fires were started in the evenings and I am keen to speak to anyone who might have seen them being set or people running away from the medical centre or St Mary’s Church.

“Please contact us if you saw or heard anything, no matter how unimportant you might think it is.”

The first incident was reported at the health centre in Pond Road at 8.50pm on September 28 when officers were called to a group of small fires.

More small fires were started at 9.30pm the following day around the health centre and at 10.20pm at St Mary’s Church in Pond Road.

Anyone with information should call 101.
