NEW Santa Specials proved popular in Hotham Park in
Bognor Regis.

Miniature railway operators Chris Lewis and Kim Morgan staged the festive excursions around the three-quarter-mile track for the first time.

They were held on the first three Saturdays of this month and attracted 215 children and hundreds of adults.

Ms Morgan said: “The services were a big success. Father Christmas drove the decorated train with an elf alongside him.

“We’d like to thank everyone who came along and supported us in the park.

“As a single parent, I knew there wasn’t a lot to do at this time of year for children and that’s why I suggested running the specials.

“Most people who came along were impressed. We turned the engine shed into Santa’s workshop and had inflatables and lights in there. There were also elves seeing the children through.”

The success of the services on the track twice round the park also led to a miniature railway service operating on Boxing Day when it also proved popular.

“The train normally ends on the last weekend in November,” said Ms Morgan. “But we’re
still running it every weekend at the moment.

“We will be open every day during the February half-term.
We would ask people to keep an
eye out for more exciting activities on the train in 2016.”

The railway has been an enduring feature of the park since it opened in 1947.

“We have regulars who buy super saver tickets,” said
Ms Morgan.

“Children just love it because it’s something unusual.”
