Bognor conference aims to tackle child poverty

Tackling child poverty will be top of the agenda at a conference taking place in Bognor Regis.

The event, being hosted by Arun District Council and the Arun Local Strategic Partnership, is designed to identify and tackle the causes of child poverty in the district.

The council’s chief executive, Nigel Lynn, said: “Child poverty is about more than just income alone and no single organisation can tackle the wide-ranging causes and consequences.

“This conference has been called in response to the recent West Sussex Child Poverty Strategy.

“This conference will lead us towards drafting an action plan which will make a real difference to the families who are currently living in poverty.”

The conference will take place on Monday at the Butlin’s Conference Centre, and will bring together organisations to examine local issues and raise awareness.

Romy Jones, chair of Arun’s Local Strategic Partnership, said: “Cross-cutting issues like Child Poverty demand joined-up and co-ordinated working between all the relevant agencies.

“This conference is a first step in brokering those relationships and fostering the co-ordinated action needed to successfully tackle child poverty.

If you would like to attend the event, you can contact Caroline Gosford on 01903 737854.
