MEMBERS of a Barnham scout group saddled up and went for a fundraising ride with a special guest. The 1st Barnham Scouts joined Bishop Martin Warner, who will soon be enthroned as diocesan Bishop of Chichester, on a ride-and-stride event.

Alongside the bishop, the youngsters visited churches in Chichester, Bognor Regis and Arundel to help raise vital funds for the care of the historic buildings.

At each church the bishop, who is a keen cyclist, took time to talk to fellow riders and striders and those manning the churches and providing refreshments.

The annual ride is a sponsored course around the churches in Sussex. It is unique as there is no fixed route – and it encourages people to see the wonderful churches and chapels across the area and to explore parts of Sussex they may not normally see.
