A COMMUNITY award has been presented to Audrey Scott for her tireless efforts in West Meads.
The award from Aldwick Parish Council was handed over to Audrey by council member John Hockenhull.
The presentation took place at a well-attended coffee morning in West Meads Community Centre.
Cllr Hockenhull nominated Audrey for the recognition for her community spirit and unstinting commitment over decades to the area.
She was a founder member of the West Meads Residents’ Association.
Cllr Hockenhull also told councillors when the nominations were made that Audrey had been closely involved in running the centre since it opened.
It celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2009 with a centre and residents’ association’s annual meeting fittingly given by Audrey. She had spent the previous years helping to raise funds for the building.
He estimated that she worked 14-20 hours a week by opening the hall and running different meetings which are held there.
The award was one of three the parish council’s members have decided upon for this year.
One has already been presented to Yvonne Brooker for her work with the TS Montrose cadets.
The awards replace a scheme of the past few years for one recipient.
Parish councillors believed this restricted their ability to pay tribute to all the volunteers who create the area’s thriving community spirit.
