ASHLEY and her classmates have gone bananas after she won a national competition.
Felpham Community College student Ashley Penfold has been celebrating after wining the national Farm to Fork competition, hosted by Nestle.
The competition aimed to get students thinking about a food they eat regularly and explain exactly where the raw ingredients come from, detailing the journey from farm to fork. Ashley, who is in Year 10, chose bananas, produced a classroom display and filmed herself teaching the display to her classmates, showing every stage of the 5,000 mile trip bananas make to reach the UK.
Ashley’s efforts saw her scoop first prize – a masterclass by one of the top company chefs.
She said: “It was a lovely surprise to win the competition and I felt proud that I could share it with my food and nutrition GCSE class.
“We definitely all learnt a lot and the chef who visited us was inspirational.”
