Delays to a town car park reopening have been attributed to ‘the lighting manufacturer changing the design of the light unit’.
In a statement Arun District Council said the multi-storey car park, originally due to reopen at the end of October, will face nearly another month of closure.
It had previously apologised for the delay.
The statement added: “The revised light fittings were not considered fit for their intended purpose and it has taken time to negotiate this issue with the parties involved and identify and obtain a suitable replacement.”
However it said the ‘advantage’ of the ‘additional period of unplanned closure’ is that it has allowed for ‘more extensive interior decoration of the car park’ to be carried out.
The closure has resulted in strong complaints from locals, particularly citing the upcoming festive season.
