A NEW Conservative councillor has been elected for Yapton.
Emma Neno ensured the Tories held on to the Arun District Council seat in last Thursday'sbyelection.

She received 620 votes from electors to secure a 408 strong majority ahead of the runner up, David Jones for the Liberal Democrats.

Mr Jones received 212 votes to just fend off the British National Party's Albert Bodle. He gained 205 votes.

The turnout in the byelection was 24.5 per cent. Ms Neno's success – which maintained the Conservatives' dominance of Yapton's two seats – followed the resignation earlier this year of Dr Christopher Forrester.

He stood down from Arun after having been elected last May with a 485 majority. The byelection result keeps the political make-up of the district council unchanged at 42 Conservative, nine Lib Dem, three Labour and two Independent members.
