MORE than 175 years of history will come to a dramatic end as the Royal Norfolk Hotel's owners made the shock decision to close its doors.
The move will result in 30 job losses which have devastated employees and numerous community groups using the venue, which will shut on February 28.

The iconic Bognor Regis landmark was originally put on the market for £2m in 2008 but a buyer could not be found by owners Christ of Nations UK and it was withdrawn from sale last April.

But according to managing director the Rev Kevin Swadling, the recession had taken its toll on the operating of the business which had forced it to again review its decision to sell.

It had been run as a partial Christian conference centre within the hotel but the past few months had months seen unsustainable losses mounting into "tens of thousands of pounds."

He would not be drawn on the identity of the company involved in the sale, which is being proposed between its asking price of £1.6m and £1.9m.
