Weird and wonderful-looking vehicles took to the tracks at Goodwood Motor Circuit for an annual electric car challenge.
Budding engineers from schools across the UK competed against business teams in the IMechE Greenpower Corporate Challenge.
They raced inside full-scale electric racing cars they designed and built themselves from scratch.
Emma Tyler from Greenpower said: "After the first half hour a team from Jaguar Land Rover started to realise some of the problems involved with electric car racing and had to work on their car in the paddock to get it back on the track.
"After two hours most of the teams had taken pit stops to put in fresh batteries and change drivers.
"All the cars showed tremendous reliability with very few breaking down and needing to be recovered."
The winner was a company called Electroad in their simple trug kit car.
Since its launch in 1999 the Greenpower scheme has given youngsters from primary through to secondary schools the opportunity to build electric cars from scratch.
