MOTHER of three Kate Bliss went back to school to make sure nothing put a spanner in the works of her long distance charity ride.

Keen Kate, 43, took cycle maintenance classes at Marle Place education centre in Burgess Hill before her gruelling solo cycle from Land's End to John O'Groats.

And as luck would have it her trip passed without trouble except for a drenching while dicing with the Glasgow traffic.

Back home with husband Rob and children Georgina, 16, Nicola 13, and Richard, nine, Kate recalled the family deadline that drove her to do the daunting ride for St Peter and St James Hospice at Wivelsfield Green.

Kate said: "I'd always wanted to do it and we are moving to Australia in a few weeks, so I was running out of time."

Kate was so busy that she abandoned plans to ask local firms for sponsorship and relied on the generosity of family and friends for the £900 she expects to raise from the 21-day trip.
