Eleven-year-old Georgina Scott-Picton was shortlisted in a national short story competition with her work described by the judges as "quite exquisite".

One of her teachers, Jill Walkinton, is celebrating the publication of her second book, written jointly with co-author Alison Lewis.

Jill, of High Street, Lindfield, describes herself as "half a writer", whose books are published under the name Jill Lewis.

Her second book, Coconut Jack, is published this week by Egmont in the Blue Banana series of illustrated reading books for schools.

But Jill is adamant that Georgina, from Haywards Heath and her pupil at Burgess Hill School for Girls, is "a whole writer" and has the talent to succeed in creative writing.

Georgina's short story, entitled His Death, has a global warming theme and was entered in the Scemes National Short Stories Competition 2008 for children up to age 11 to write a 1,000 word story on the theme of One World.
