HUNDREDS of Cicestrians gathered in the rain ten years ago this month for a special day in the city’s history.
Prince Charles visited Chichester in early June, 2003, and the Chichester Observer naturally covered the event in great detail, with numerous pictures, which are reproduced here.
The prince viewed extensive refurbishment work at the cathedral and met individuals who had donated thousands of pounds each towards its restoration.
Prince Charles met members of the restoration team, including stonemasons, and congratulated them.
“Thank God there are still skilled tradesmen like you. Well done,” he said.
He was visiting the cathedral as patron of the Chichester Cathedral Millennium Endowment Appeal.
He was shown the most recent restoration work by the dean of Chichester, the Very Rev Nicholas Frayling.
As he left the cathedral, he was greeted by dozens of cheering children from Prebendal School and hundreds of members of the public.
