EXHIBITION: Artists getting their chance in limelight at Oxmarket
Artists From The South offers a group exhibition at the Oxmarket Centre of Arts in Chichester, featuring Andy Waite, Barbara Macfarlane, Carolyn Booker, Frances Hatch and Gordon Rushmer.
It runs from June 30 to July 18 at the venue in St Andrew's Court, off East Street, Chichester.
Carolyn Booker studied textile design at Worthing College of Art and worked in interior design for many years, painting part-time and producing hand-painted silk scarves.
Gradually the emphasis of her work has shifted to paintings rather than textiles.
Setting up her own picture framing company in 1999 has allowed her more time and freedom to paint.
Exhibiting successfully since 1996, Carolyn – based at Bookers Barn, Walberton – has shown regularly at the Affordable Art Fair, Battersea, the Chichester Open, Arundel Gallery Trail, the Otter Gallery, Chichester University, the Phoenix Gallery, Brighton and the Zimmer Gallery, Arundel.
She also has work on permanent shows in several restaurants in Surrey.
Gordon Rushmer was born in Petersfield, and although his painting takes him across the world he still lives in the area.
His success as a landscape painter is matched by his reputation as a war artist.
In recent years he has worked in areas of conflict as diverse as Bosnia, Kosovo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Afghanistan and Iraq.
He has paintings in many collections including the National Library of Wales, ICI, HM Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Nelson Mandela, the Royal Marines, the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps, the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment, the Royal Marines Museum, the Mariniers Museum Rotterdam and the House of Lords.
Frances Hatch was born in the Isle of Ely, Cambridgeshire in 1955. She now lives in Poole, Dorset.
Her work involves engaging with particular environments using mixed media.
She returned from a working trip to the Antarctic Peninsula in February 2005 and is now exhibiting the work made in response.
She is a senior tutor at West Dean College, Chichester.
