JURORS considering the Ricky Butler trial have been warned not let their emotions affect their judgement.
Richard Martin, 19, of Heath Way, Horsham, denies murdering Ricky Butler and wounding another teenager with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm.
With the jury due to retire and consider its verdicts tomorrow morning, Judge Richard Brown told them: "The sort of tragic events that we've heard about in this case are likely to generate emotional reactions in the minds of everybody that hears about it.
"Emotions are natural - without them the world would be a very poor place."
However, he added: "Emotions must never play any part in any jury's deliberations.
"I sometimes say to juries: 'Leave your emotions behind in the corridor on the way to the jury room, and pick them up when you leave and you've made your decision.'
"You have to take a cold, hard, calculated look at the evidence."
