Lord March may have unwittingly set a stewards' enquiry rolling after declaring Ladies' Day was getting beseiged by chavs last summer, but everyone seemed to be on fine fashion form this year.
Beautiful brims, heavenly heels and fantastic frocks were to be seen across the grounds, with all the lovely ladies dressed up to the nines, while the gentlemen seemed to have got the message about dressing appropriately as well.

The event, which
took place last Thursday, attracted good crowds, with plenty of big spenders splashing their cash with the bookies.

Ladies' Day is always one of the highlights of the summer calendar. It's all about sipping a cooling glass of champagne or Pimm's in the sun, while studying the form and having the odd flutter, without taking it too seriously.

And fun is what everyone was having, despite the few drops of rain which fell during the afternoon.

As soon as the clouds opened, up went the brollies as everyone merrily dashed for cover – or to the bar for another drink.

Plenty of race-going celebs were out to see the action, including actor James Nesbitt, from televison programmes Cold Feet and Murphy's Law, Manchester United coach Alex Ferguson, former model Jodie Kidd and Alex Best, ex-wife of football legend George Best.

Visitor Sarah Dennis from Brighton summed up the day: "It's such a fabulous day – you don't often get to wear a nice dress and a nice hat so it's lovely to be able to get dolled up. It makes the occasion special.

"Some people may say people don't dress as classily as they used to, but if you look around, everyone has made such an effort."
