Pram race thanks

WOULD you publish in your newspaper our most grateful thanks for the amazing generosity of the spectators, competitors and sponsors with regard to the licensed street collection on December 26.

Safety first please

AS MANY readers will be aware, there have been three pedestrian fatalities in the past six weeks on the A27 between the Stockbridge and Whyke roundabouts. The three men killed have been clients of Stonepillow.

Ed must speak up

ED MILLIBAND must do more than just urge others to defend our National Health Service.

Thanks for support

ON SUNDAY, February 5, the annual Chichester 10k Road Race took place for the 21st time. This road race attracts about 2,000 entries with many local running clubs represented as well as some of the country’s best long-distance runners.

Homes issue building

AT THE time of the eco-town proposals the housing register in Arun stood at 3,880 households (definition: individuals who comprise a family unit and who live together under the same roof).

Bravo to brave teems

HOW COURAGEOUS of Demelza Merry Craven and Suzanna Dixey to visit Auschwitz.

Blue badges bumped

I ATTEMPTED to park my car at the free overhead car park at Morrisons and was aware there were six cars waiting, intruding into the road adjoining.

A bridge too far?

IT WAS interesting to read the article about the proposed railway bridge at Woodgate which will apparently ‘ease motorists’ outrage’. It states that ‘the crossing has been suggested... for more than a decade’. I moved to Woodgate more than ten years ago and, during that time, the road usage and congestion on the A29 has increased considerably and will increase even more when the Bognor Relief Road is completed.

Addresses, please

I ALWAYS enjoy the different views expressed by the writers to your letters page.

What makes it free?

I DON’T know whether to support the free school initiative or not.

Where’s our cinema?

I AM VERY disappointed The Guide contains very little news of entertainment in Bognor Regis.

Derogatory remarks about ‘the disabled’

In relation to Pagham Harbour your correspondent Dawn Bridger criticises Mr King, asking how dare he write an opinion on something she claims he does not really know about.

No access for disabled people

I HAVE to congratulate Dawn Bridger on having the ability to misconstrue everything I wrote regarding access to Pagham Harbour.

Cyclists: dismount!

AS A CYCLIST in my younger days I am pleased the present generation are able to cycle on specified areas of the promenade.

Gates a traffic issue

AS A resident of this estate I wish to express my objection to the Aldwick Bay Company (ABC) gate proposals.

Let’s work together

BEING on the informative emailing list of the Greener Bognor Network, I attended the public meeting on Monday to invite ideas and proposals for spending the Sainsbury’s section 106 funding, close to £900K.

Difficult to fund coastal defences

Unfortunately it’s the case that for most public coast defences, there’s no obligation for any organisation to keep them repaired.

The sea wall issues rises up once more

THANKS for giving the matter of the Selsey sea defences an airing.

Good opportunity to meet people

I WOULD like to respond to a recent letter (Observer, January 12), referring to street collections by charities.

Not enough jobs to go round

WITH all the stories about benefit spongers propagated I suspect by this government, your readers might be interested to know that according to the Office for National Statistics in December there were only 488,000 job vacancies in the UK.

Please get in touch

I WOULD be very grateful if the good samaritan who picked me up from the pavement outside the chemist in North Street, Chichester, at about 9.20am on Saturday, January 21, and took me to A&E would please get in touch by telephoning 01730 892016.

Thanks for Alzheimer’s care

MY MOTHER died just before Christmas, aged 100.

Thanks for aid

I AM writing to thank all the kind people who came to my aid on Friday, January 13, when I tripped and fell by the cathedral bell tower and tried to plough up the pavement with my nose!

Misleading impression

WE SHOULD be grateful if you would correct the misleading impression given in your recent article that Aspects of Whyke – Through the Ages, which the Whyke Residents’ Association has republished, is only concerned with the Whyke Estate.

That fox needed aid

FURTHER to the letter in the Observer from Barry Fox (January 5) – what a horrid man.

New evening drama

THERE is never a dull moment when you live on the coast and last Saturday evening was no exception.

Get the signs right

I THINK the problem in the High Street could be cured by changing the present sign which means ‘No motor traffic’, but is compromised by the ‘except buses’ sign, the result in motorists seeing buses travel through and following them.

What’s in a name?

WHERE IS the rhyme or reason for naming the new retirement complex in Hawthorn Road – Pagham Court, which one would expect to be in Pagham?

Danger on the roads

ON JANUARY 8, my son and I were nearly run over by a taxi driver.

Be clear on harbour

REGARDING Mr King’s letter in the Observer (January 19), how dare you write an opinion on something you really do not seem to know about?

Why are they trying to destroy the Picturedrome?

SO Arun are yet again trying to drive the Picturedrome out of business.

Highlighting the weakness of leisure

The Arun Leisure Culture Strategy finds that ‘people do not travel far to use leisure centres’, highlights the weakness of the quality and range of leisure in the centre of Bognor, and criticises the Littlehampton Leisure Centre because it is a considerable distance from the town centre.

If Bognor Regis isn’t broken, why fix it?

HAVING lived in or around Bognor for a little over 30 years, I remain puzzled as to the reason why any planners or consultants given the task – presumably at our expense – of considering how to improve Bognor start from the premise they must first get rid of anything in the town that is already working well.

Parties should speak out

THE PRESENT laws on speaking in council on matters in which you may have an interest are ridiculous and must be amended.

Defend bus subsidy

GREG Miles’ timely report (Observer, January 5), ‘Bus campaigners urge residents to fight cuts’, should be supported by all who care for those depending upon bus subsidies for essential mobility.

Derek will be missed

I LEARNT of the death of Derek Debuse with great sadness.

Fares are fair deal

IN DUNCAN Barkes’ recent column on increased rail fares (Observer, January 5), he states some fares went up by nine per cent in January. He mentions he regularly commutes to London on a morning peak train. An annual Southern season ticket from Chichester to London has increased by 4.9 per cent – a figure a full one per cent below Southern’s average figure of 5.9 per cent for regulated fares, a small amount below the current rate of inflation (RPI @ 5.2 per cent in November 2011 – source ONS) and a long way from the nine percent Mr Barkes refers to. The closest increase to this from Chichester to London is the Travelcard season ticket which has increased by 7.9 per cent.

Ban cars from town

ON WALKING through the Bognor pedestrian precinct on Saturday, I and a couple of other people were hooted at by a disabled driver to get out of his way, his wife wound down her window and remonstrated with us.

Generous taxpayer?

I NORMALLY pay my council tax on time. No-one has yet paid it for me, but I live in hope that one day this might happen.

Issues that matters

WHAT has happened to your letters page? The past few months it has gone from being a lovely local chatty news page to a posh broadsheet type letter page.

Clamp fee to steep

A FEW days before Christmas my grandson, aged 16, a sixth-form student at a local school, went on his moped to visit his mother (he lives with his father).
