New West Sussex film shows how to ‘Age with Confidence’
A NEW film has been released showing how West Sussex County Council and its partners are helping residents prepare for the later stages of their lives.
Through the Age with Confidence initiative the West Sussex Cooperative (the county council, the district and borough councils, the NHS, and voluntary groups) is promoting ways in which people can plan for old age.
The film aims to highlight how through initiatives such as Carewise, West Sussex County Council is working with leading organisations to help people find the kind of information they will need as they grow old and less able to look after themselves.
Throughout March, libraries will be promoting Age With Confidence and age-related services.
All 36 of the county’s libraries will have displays and information on the advice and services both West Sussex County Council and its partner, the Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, are providing for people as they grow older.
Peter Catchpole, cabinet member for adults’ services, said: “Age with Confidence, Carewise and Meals on Wheels are all vital parts of West Sussex County Council’s strategy for older people.
“Our aim is to help older people retain their independence within their community by providing a suite of services that will help them maintain their community links, health and wellbeing, and their financial independence too.”

Friday, February 17, 2012 at 09:56 AMYes it is absolute waste of tax payer money when there are so many other things that need doing. I expect someone went on a jolly to investigate how people make these films and it was probably abroad all expenses paid. All very necessary when you are spending taxpayer money.

Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 07:18 PMI can only assume that being the West Sussex County council this waste of public funds will run into 1000s of pounds and I have no doubt friends of friends would have stared in it and produced this pile of dogs doo.

Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 06:58 PM"West Sussex County Council is working with leading organisations " Are we allowed to know who these organisations are ? Can anyone find out and let everyone know, preferably before anyone watches the film so they are wise to any subliminal brainwashing techniques !

Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 01:06 PM@7, Frankly, I'm not sure that I agree that ADC are incapable of independent thought, I would say that independent thought is all they are capable of, I think there's a view of "Worthing can take care of services, now how much can we get for this piece of land", from my experience, which I won't go into in detail, but it appears that WSCC have very little input into how Parkin and his gang of six operate, likewise The Lought also claims that he has no influence over their operations either. Smalltown England has created this problem itself, by thinking that voting tory is a good idea, that said this area has suffered from other party behaviour as well, I think that scrapping the party system in local politics altogether and having an all independent council would solve alot of problems, as I have seen first hand the muppets oops I mean puppets that are put forward by the party to fill spaces with yes men or absent minds when people that are actually concerned with the local area albeit single issue politicians for the most part, would actually have a passionate input that would allow the area to thrive. I'm sure that come the General election the tory party line will be that all the badstupid ideas were down to the Lib dems and the sheep will swallow the lot and tick the blue box yet again.

Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 12:34 PMCan someone please tell us how much this film cost, and whose going to watch it (voluntarily)? Is this another product of the Behavioural Insight Team? Did you know that in 10 Downing Street there is a new pyschological unit known as the Behavioural Insight Team whose objective is to manipulate UK citizens into changing their ways. They have already suggested we make a charitable donation whenever we use a cashpoint machine, that learner drivers opt in to organ donation, and that OAP go back to work and downsize their homes. It's scary. Big Brother is watching you. George Orwell was right.

Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 03:20 AMIt's the fourth paragraph in the article that makes me smile. "Throughout March libraries will be promoting Age with Confidence....". So, you have made it to 65, can't for what ever reason get to a library in March, well you have lost the opportunity for a rainbow walk into old age. I'll do what I've done all my life and take my chance. WSCC? Make yourself useful and fill in a few potholes.

Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 11:09 PM@5 isaac I have long given up on Timmy boy,now but a loyal "tory" Who no doubt supports the Conservatives "New Homes Bonus" described as a "bribe". I suspect Adur District Councillors are now not capable of independent thought from their Worthing counterparts, they likewise under the cosh from West Sussex County Council. All now obtaining grants to allow building developments wherever the developers want. I have said before, this Government is fast coming under threat from the very supporters who put them in power, namely their traditional Shire voters who dont want all this overdevelopment. Look at the letter pages in both WS Gazette, and the County Times

Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 10:15 PMThe Argus today has an article re Western Sussex Hospital Trust and the fact that they can think of NO further use for The Harness Block at Southlands. They are inviting suggestions. Please feel free to put them right!

Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 10:14 PM@5 I've already made my suggestion for a new use, A circus to home Parkin and all the othe clowns in charge of local decisions in Adur. A community Hospital would be nice, but local people are loosing enthusiasm by the day, after all, there's only so many times that you can knock on an itiot's forehead and ask if there's anyone in there. We've been told that we should be OK now that Loughton is trying to help,He's about as good at supporting local people's views as Pol Pot would have made a great babysitter.

Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 09:28 PMIf it paints an accurate picture of what we can expect from the NHS in years to come, it's likely to be a "Video Nasty".

Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 09:23 PMDoes it have a PG rating? Or is it an adult film.

Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 09:17 PMWill there still be an NHS when I get old? There definitely won't be a southlands hospital to offer care. Does this new film explain how I should be confident as I fester in my own filth with no services available should I become unwell, or is the idea of this to get me ready to accept the lack of public services that I can expect in my later life. Maybe it will tell me which private companies to invest in to make sure that I'm on board with the people benefitting from the privatisation of healthcare.
