HOURS of study have enabled a Bognor Regis education employee to join an elite band in the country.

Mark Betts became one of only 45 individuals from across the country to gain the Advanced Diploma of School Business Management.

The qualification is designed to give them the high level financial and administrative skills that are becoming increasingly important in an always changing educational setting with pressure on facilities and budgets.

Trevor Summerson, the head of school business management at the National College for School Leadership, said: “Graduates like Mark should feel proud of their achievement.

“They are now highly qualified to make an invaluable contribution to the smooth running of schools and the drive to raise standards.

“School business managers have an increasingly vital role to play in schools today by applying latest skills to a broad range of key school functions.

“They are adept at making money go further and they can also free up headteachers from many non-teaching tasks.”

Mark, 42, spent just over a year working towards his qualification alongside his job at The Regis School.

“It works out about three or four hours a week studying on average. It was a lot more difficult than it looks,” he said. “It was difficult juggling my home life as a father of three, as well as my work in which the school moved to Academy status and into a new school.”
