Winter ends with a Winter win

Finals day at Lavant short mat bowls club was well-attended.

And in the men's singles final, Peter Winter held a 10-4 lead over John Heasman after seven ends.

Heasman took four of the next five ends, but Winter sealed the match with a single on the last end to win 14-11.

In the ladies' singles final, Muriel Winter was up against in-form Jackie Lee, who was 20-0 ahead after six ends. Winter won three of the next four ends, but Lee won the last three ends to take the title 29-4.

The pairs final saw Pam Beardmore and Keith Fancy win all but one of the first five ends to lead 9-1. But then Jean Conway and Tony Bleach took all but one of the remaining ends to win 17-10.

NYETIMBER

Nyetimber went to Bognor Goodwoods for a friendly, but ended empty-handed after losing on all three mats.

Scores: Mat 1: Joan Evans, Freda Thomas, Ted Moore and Barbara Crew (s) lost 16-20; Mat 2: Catherine Plummer, Francis Hollebone, Peter Skinner & Shirley Syrett (s) lost 14-24; Mat 3: Jean Leake, Nigel Plummer, Alan Crew and Tony Mussell(s) lost
4-27. Overall score 71-34.

BILLINGSHURST

The north-east division-two champions of the West Sussex League,The Martlets, visited third-placed Mannings Heath for their final match.

The Martlets rink of Jane Eyre, Marc Lancaster(captain), Jack Rollings and Malcolm Rollings recovered from some early struggles for a 32-18 victory.

The second rink of Nigel Short, Charlotte Rollings, Chris Rolph and Kyle McGowan took a 26-11 win.
