A rainy day for those who turned out for Petworth & Bognor's Parfrement Cup at Hurston didn't deter Rab Butler, finding six good carp halfway along the match lake to take first spot with 17lb 15oz.

On the opposite side, Ray Huskisson also found a couple of good carp which, with some silver fish, gave him a weight of 9lb 4oz, with Kevin Leighfield, pegged from the top of the lake, taking third place with 8lb 15oz, mostly silver fish on the whi
p.

The Hurston Lane fishery at Storrington is popular and has benefited from hard work undertaken by dedicated members, who put in a lot of time and effort to maintain the water.

It is set in lovely surroundings and offers a good variety of coarse fish.

Some good carp come from the middle carp pond and the match pond, while the tench lake holds good-size fish, including rudd.

That means anglers have to choose their bait and method carefully to avoid the growing rudd population kept in check by some eels, which are important to balance the fish stock.

The rivers continue to fish well with levels about right for this time of the year, another barbel having been caught from the Coates Castle section on the Rother.

And Mike Kitchener has done it again – taking a 13lb 8oz barbel from Fittleworth, which shows how much these barbel are spread throughout the Rother.

Geoff Sumner also had a good tench day, well into double figures from Bethwins' upper pond – a spot well worth a visit with some good carp showing from the lower pond.

Anglers are hoping for rain soon to keep the waters at a good level.

Les Taylor was at Deep Lake using his new pole for the first time and catching roach, rudd, skimmers, tench, gudgeon, crucians and small carp.

All fish fell to corn fished at five metres.

Mark Emery fished Canada Lake using the short pole from peg 33. He caught bream, tench, roach, skimmers and carp, all on meat.

Adam Tester and Mark Emery fished Deep Lake.

Tester fished the waggler with maggot on the hook for a net of small carp, roach, tench and skimmers. Emery fished the short pole with meat on the hook for a similar catch.

Also on the lake was Trevor Mordle, fishing the short pole with maggot and/or pinkie on the hook. He caught numerous small fish, but topped off his catch with one of the lake's resident chub, which tipped the scales at 1lb 8oz.

Steve and Verity Ludlow made a return visit to Goose Green, fishing Deep Pond at the venue using paste and/or pellet. Steve caught well with skimmers, gudgeon, small carp and crucians.

Steve and Verity fished Tench Pond at Goose Green. Steve fished the waggler with pellet on the hook and reported a good catch of rudd and roach, but unfortunately no tench.

Adam Tester & Mark Emery fished the Top Lake at Moor Farm. They netted crucians and tench of 14lb and 27lb 6oz.
