Trainers go the extra mile for Goodwood's totesport race

The £150,000 totesport Mile, run on the fourth day of Glorious Goodwood has attracted a bumper entry of 82.
That's seven more than in 2007 in what looks set to be another thrilling renewal of one of the richest mile handicaps in Europe.
The weights are headed by the Luca Cumani-trained Bankable, who has been allotted 9st 13lb and is rated a 12/1 chance by totesport.
The four-year-old colt was an impressive course and distance winner of the Listed On The House Stakes in May, finishing fifth in the Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot.
The master of Bedford House Stables has also entered recent Salisbury handicap scorer Military Cross (9st 1lb), Swop (8st 4lb, 16/1), successful in two of his three starts, and Axiom (8st 1lb, 16/1).
Totesport make Masaalek their 10/1 market leader and the improving three-year-old looks set to take his chance having been allotted 8st 7lb.
The lightly-raced son of Green Desert finished a half-length second in the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot despite having been drawn high and followed up that display with a close third in the competitive toteswinger Handicap at Sandown in July.
Trainer Marcus Tregoning has been pleased with the progress Masaalek has made this season and hopes the Hamdan Al Maktoum-owned colt will take his chance in the totesport Mile before racing in Pattern company.
Tregoning said: "The totesport Mile is on the radar for Masaalek and he has got a very attractive weight. He was quite a late foal, born in the middle of May, and he's surely going to improve this year. He's getting stronger with every race.
"You need a lot of luck in running with these type of horses, but you can get the splits at Goodwood.
"He's come out of that race in great shape and everything is geared towards Goodwood now. The prize money on offer for heritage handicaps is so attractive that it makes good sense to try the totesport Mile before listed or group races."
