The outdoor bowls season is now in full swing - and we've got all the reports from around the greens.
PETWORTH

Petworth 73 Horsham Park 63

Another season got under way on April 20 with a visit from Horsham Park to Petworth Bowls Club. The weather stayed fine and Petworth won by just ten shots to make for a good start to the campaign.

Scores: B Jones, S Allen, E West, M Bacon, won 27-12; J Carline, S Gould, D Latter, C Herbert, lost 19-15; J Dormer, R Fenton, T Whittington, L Corne, won 19-14; P Herrington, A Jordan, R Lucking, D Herbert, lost 18-12.

Petworth 100 Field Place 79

What a lovely day for Petworth's second game of the season – another win, this time by 21 shots against Field Place.

Scores: B Walsh, A Jordan, L Corne, won 22-13; P Herrington, R Lucking, G Ives, won 26-11; T Brooks, CA Latter, C Spear, won 18-15; B Jones, R Fenton, G Allen, lost 23-20; J Dormer, T Whittington, E West, lost 17-14.

Petworth 114 Witterings 47

This was another very good result for Petworth, winning on all four rinks and conclusively beating Witterings by 67shots. It was their third win out of three outings.

Scores: J Carline, P Spear, D Herbert, M Lancaster, won 32-11; P Herrington, A Jordan, E West, L Corne, won 32-13; A Northeast, T Whittington, G Ives, M Monk, won 34-10; J Dormer, B Jones, R Lucking, M Lillywhite, won 27-13.

Petworth 95 Stedham 53

Not such a good day for bowling on Sunday but the result was the same –another good win for Petworth by 42 shots, for their fourth win out of four.

Scores: B Jones, S Allen, K Mitchell, won 28-16; P Herrington, CA Latter, T Whittington, won 25-9; C Heywood, J Carline, A Jordan, won 22-17; G Heywood, J Dormer, D Latter, won 20-11.

CHICHESTER

Chichester 73 Stedham 74

Chichester entertained Stedham in a very close mixed friendly match. Chichester held a seven shot lead after nine ends but Stedham edged ahead over the last few ends to win by one shot. Fred Field skipped Chichester's only winning rink to a 17 shot victory.

Scores: B Hole, Mrs J Hole, C Porter, lost 19-15; M Johnson, Mrs I Taylor, J Thair, lost 22-20; Mrs M Maggs, C Wade, F Field, won 26-9; J Walters, Mrs S Baverstock, D Schofield, lost 24-12.

Worthing BHP 93 Chichester 75

Chichester were ten shots adrift after nine ends in their friendly match at Worthing BHP.

Chichester fell further behind as the match progressed, losing by 18 shots. Their only success was a seven shot win by John Heasman's rink.

Scores: B Hole, J Williams, B Talmage, lost 18-13; L Stewart, B Money, M Bayfield, lost 22-15; R Percival, L Edmonds, J Heasman, won 19-12; T Jennings, F Field, P Howick, lost 25-14; M Johnson, A Stewart, C Porter, lost 16-14.

Chichester 92 Arundel 73

Chichester were ahead on just one rink and 12 shots behind overall after 11 ends of their first league match of the season, against Arundel.

Chichester produced a fine second half performance to take the match by 19 shots and, with wins on three rinks, secured eight points.

Scores: G Buckle, M Lewis, C Porter, A Anderson, won 26-21; P Whale, A Bowler, J Heasman, M Page, won 24-11; I Linfield, F Field, B Butler, B Talmage, won 29-17; J Williams, P Howick, M Bayfield, R Hobbs, lost 24-13.

Chichester 57 Brighton 51

The two oldest clubs in Sussex met for their annual match and Chichester were 11 shots in front after ten ends. Brighton fought back and had a four shot advantage after 18 ends but Chichester rallied over the last three ends to take victory by six shots – each rink winning by two shots.

Scores: D Mason, Mrs M Schofield, V Mitchell, J Heasman, won 23-21; M Johnson, J Thair, Mrs M Field, M Lewis, won 18-16; Mrs J Jones, R Sparrow, B Money, P Whale, won 16-14.

WITTERINGS

The first men's friendly of the season resulted in a 115-50 loss at Petworth.

Skips' results: D Leach 11-22, R Smith 13-32, J Slogrove 13-34, B Horsley 13-27.

The first ladies friendly, away to Bognor, saw them win 40-29.

Skips' results: Peg Lillywhite 29-9, Chris Horsley 11-20.

In the national club two fours, the first round saw Witterings face East Preston A.

After an extra end the result was a 41-40 win for the Witterings.

Rink scores (Witterings skips first): Derek Leach 30, Keith Harrison 15; David Bell 11, Brian Wise 25.

In the next round the Witterings are at home to Field Place A or Tarring Priory B.

PAGHAM

Pagham got off to a good start in the leagues with a double win at Arundel.

The men won on both rinks, collecting six points, and the ladies just missed a six-point win with one rink losing by one shot but collected four points.

Scores

Ladies' C&M League: Diana Mitchell, Doreen Ellis, Barbara Piedot, Gill Dart lost 19-18; Janet Boucher (capt), Jackie Sales, Margaret Rees, Chris Mayoss won 26-7.

Mixed BM League triples: Iris Brooker, Eric Mitchell, Peter Brooker won 25-11; Sabin Livermore, Paul Mayoss, Roy Livermore won 29-15.

Two friendly rinks played – both won.

Scores: erek Levy, Alan Boucher, Mike Adams, Douglas Vaughan won 24-14; John Warner, Brian Sales, Dave Spinks, Peter Quilter won 21-17.

The ladies opened their fixtures playing a friendly captain versus vice-captain's game.

The captain's side won on all rinks for a 89-86 victory.

Scores: Diana Mitchell, Gill Dart, Sheila Stocker won 28-10
vs Eileen Terry, Marlene Steel, Janet Hanson; Janet Boucher, Iris Brooker, Gill Conley won 20-15 vs Sabina Livermore, Doreen Ellis, Chris Mayoss; Sheila Brown, Jackie Sales,
Annie Ross won 19-13 vs Eileen Shine, Pat Cobbing, Barbara Piedot.

SOUTHBOURNE

Southbourne took four points when they travelled to Aldingbourne (2pts) to achieve a 43-38 win in the BM League. M Odell was top skip with a 27-12 score.

Scores: D Young, D Moseley, M Odell won 27-12 (2pts); B Aston, C Young, A Greenfield lost 16-26 (0 pts).

FISHBOURNE

Fishbourne had mixed results in their three latest outings.

Fishbourne 88 St Mary Bourne 126

Scores: C Lankshear, D Humphreys, B Cobie, L Kneale lost 26-10; K Makin, M Beasley, M Kneane, T Gaffney lost 28-14; S Jones, G Poland, F Heil, P White lost 19-18; J Conway, N Saunders, V Frost, P Winter lost 33-12; P Green, B Copeland, D Jeffreys P Massey drew 15-15; D Green, A Saunders, G Jefkins, B Wallsgrove won 19-17.

Fishbourne 90 Telepost 56

G Poland, S Heil, G Collins won 28-13; C Lankshear, D Jeffreys, B Wallsgrove won 18-13; V Jeffreys, M Beasley, F Heil drew 18-18; J Conway, G Randall B Henham won 26-12.

Fishbourne 62 Emsworth 77

Scores: J Summers, T Absolom, M Bleach lost 19-7; S Jones, M Keane, P White won 23-16; E Keane, J Conway, B Wallsgrove won 19-15; G Summers, B Copeland, B Henham lost 27-13.

STEDHAM

Stedham had two hard-fought friendlies at the weekend.

On Saturday they played away to RAFA (Bognor), winning 2-1 on rinks for a final score of 47-45 in their favour.

On Sunday, at Crablands (Selsey) a close game saw a 2-2 draw in rinks but an overall score of 61-60 to Stedham.

HOTHAM

Norfolk 28 Hotham 38

Hotham took four points in their opening Brooks Motors Mixed League fixture of the new season at Norfolk.

The triple skipped by Tony Sayers led comfortably throughout, while Pete Hannam's triple narrowly lost on the last end.

Scores: K Hellyer, M Smith & T Sayers won 24:10; D Cooke, R Bell & P Hannam lost 14:18

Hotham also took three friendly triples to Norfolk BC but lost on all rinks.

C&M Ladies League
