It's another in our new series in which Dean Adams debates the sporting issues of the day and asks you to respond.
It was a big weekend for football, absolutely massive if you are a Pompey fan. No, not the cup final a fortnight early, but time for Southampton to find out whether they were going down.

A fair few Pompey fans no doubt descended on St Mary's hoping to witness a Sheffield United victory on 'Relegation Sunday'.

They didn't get their wish as Southampton stayed up by the skin of their teeth, but it all raised an interesting question.

'As a Pompey fan, did you want to see Southampton relegated into League One - or do you want south coast derbies back on the agenda in the Premier League'?

It was a good question raised by Jimmy Ball, the son of the late great legend Alan Ball.

Jimmy said: "A true Pompey fan would not want to see Southampton relegated and should want the south coast derbies back in the Premier League."

I disagreed.

I am a Pompey fan, and I would have loved to see Southampton relegated again - especially during the year we win the FA Cup. How great would that double have been.

Sorry Jimmy, although I'd love to have another derby on the fixture list, it would have to be as an FA Cup fixture while we are defending the cup next year!

**********

I have to hold my hands up and admit - not for the first time this season - a football prediction from me went wrong.

Congratulations to Adie Girdler, Chichester City United's manager, who has kept them in the Sussex County League division one.

I predicted, after the late-season upheaval and departures of management Joe Laidlaw and Louis Savage along with most of the playing staff, they would be certain for relegation.

But I was totally wrong. They've done a great job surviving - and it sets them up nicely for their return to Oakland's Park next season.

I hope they go on to bigger and better things one day.
