Dean Adams discusses local and national footbal issues in the third in his series Talking Sport

A question was raised in the pub the other night - if you had the money and, you had control of Bognor Regis Town Football Club, who would be your manager?

Do you stick with Micky Birmingham and give him a chance? Or do you go for an ex-pro wh
o could be a big name locally? It was a good question. And one that got us thinking.

Do you stamp your own mark on the club straight away by changing the manager or do you give the current one your support?

So, I walk into Bognor Regis Town Football club as owner with a few quid in my pocket in my own little dream world.

My first question rattling around in my brain is 'So what could Micky Birmingham do with a few quid at his disposal?'

It's then I realised that the respected ex-midfielder should be given a chance, not just a month or two, but a whole season at the minimum.

There is not much loyalty in the game but this man deserves his chance with the right backing.

Four of the five people I am discussing this with, whilst sipping my Guinness, agree with me.

But what if there was a blank canvas to work with, who would you appoint?

My thinking is someone to draw the punters in, with Portsmouth, Southampton and Brighton the big local clubs, so maybe an ex-player from them.

My dream combination would be a manager in the Roy Keane mould, so I am going to go with ex-Pompey player and now Aldershot first team coach Martin Kuhl.

A former hard man but a quality player in his time and now steering Aldershot into the football league under manager Gary Waddock.

With Martin still young and unproven as a manager, I would have a father figure head to come in above him as a Director of Football overseeing the club.

My automatic favourite would be a man no longer with us, the late Alan Ball. Sadly that cannot happen so my thinking goes to ex-Brighton manager Barry Lloyd, currently Albion's Chief Scout.

A man with local knowledge and experience and one I enjoy talking and listening to in my working week.

Agree or disagree, what would you do?

**********

What on earth is Fabio Capello doing changing the England captain every friendly game before his first qualifying game?

It's suppose to be an honour to captain your country and something to work for.

But to give it to every Tom, Dick and Harry after they have earn't a few caps is crazy!

It's making the position of captain a joke. By the time we get to appointing a permanent captain we will have had half the team wearing the armband for a game.

Will those players then look up to the new captain with the same respect as to what the armband use to bring?

Personally, I give it to John Terry. Committed and passionate. Who cares if he occasionally makes the headlines for the wrong reasons? It won't make our kids of today think less of him, most likely the other way!

I don't think it makes him less of a role model. When I think of Terry I picture passion and commitment.

Although to be honest, I still think David Beckham should be Terry's main challenge and, most certainly on the team sheet.
