This year has been quickly developing into one of the most successful seasons at Bognor Regis Golf Club.
For the seniors section, the climax came when they won the Gilbert Print Plate.

This is the first occasion when a Bognor team has won a Sussex Seniors competition.

Of the five matches played only the first, against Mid Sussex, was played at Bo
gnor.

This was followed by a 3-1 win at Cooden Beach, Bexhill, and then a win at Sedlescombe, Hastings, which required a play-off.

The semi-final, against Mannings Heath, was played in torrential rain at Worthing and that was won 3½-½.

The final, played at Singing Hills, resulted in a 2½-1½ win against East Sussex National.

Cliff Willis was the team captain this year. He fostered a strong team ethic and there was no doubt his enthusiasm and energy played a tremendous part in the team's splendid achievement.

In addition to Willis, the following contributed to this excellent win – Jim Catt, Derek Dady, Roland Heath, Peter Lott, Ian Paine, Peter Selby, Jim Stephenson, Ron Stevens and Gary Steventon.

During the season, 78 veterans have taken part in the four qualifying rounds of the Fletcher Trophy.

This week the final was keenly contested by the 35 best qualifiers.

The winner was Hugh Diaper with 42 points. Brian Kingswell was second with 40, on countback from Richard Hedge. Fourth was Graham Lucas, fifth Doug Hamlett and sixth Gary Steventon, all on 39.

A veterans team had a good home win against Southwick Park 6-2.
