Rocks 2 Brighton 4
The Rocks showed plenty of encouraging signs as they lost 4-2 to Brighton in front of a crowd of more than 500 at sunny Nyewood Lane..
Goals from captain Duncan Jupp and Oxford United loanee Alex Fisher at either end of an entertaining game gave the scoreline a respectable look.
The new management team of Mick Jenkins, Andy Awford and Darin Killpartrick will have learned plenty about the impressively-big squad they have put together in a short space of time.

Former captain Danny Smith and ex-Southampton academy youngster Josh Dutton-Black were among the players on display for Bognor as they build a completely new team.
The warm evening sun brought a crowd of 521 nto Nyewood Lane.
It was a quiet start to the game, with both sides playing neat football without threatening the keeper.
But the deadlock was broken on 11 minutes when Kevin McLeod was played into acres of space on the Rocks right and arrowed a shot past keeper Aaron Howe.
Bognor did their best to hit back quickly. First Chris Clark and Dutton-Black combined well to threaten the Seagulls' defence, then Scott Harris - one of only three players left from last season's squad - fired a 25-yarder just over the bar.
The Rocks were level on 20 minutes when Jupp ghosted in to volley home a corner after the lively Dutton-Black cut inside and had a shot deflected behind.
Bognor had their tails up and Alex Fisher forced Seagulls keeper John Sullivan into a good save at his near post.
But when the corner came over, Jupp was held and referee Danny Austin pointed to the spot. Dan Beck stepped up to take the kick but Sullivan dived to his left and pushed it away.
Brighton almost went back in front on 25 minutes when Johnny Dixon beat Howe and rattled the bar with a near-post header which rebounded to safety.
It was an open game and both sides carved out half-chances.
Smith spooned one over the bar from close range when a cross from the right fell to him, then Nicky Forster hit one high and wide after controlling a long ball at the other end.
The Seagulls regained the lead eight minutes before half-time when ex-Rock Tommy Elphick nodded in from a few yards out after Dixon had time to head back across goal following a hanging cross from the right.
Beck might have levelled it up again on 41 minutes but his shot from the edge of the box after a Clark pass was a trifle too high.
Half-time 1-2
Beck was replaced by Michael McEnery at the start of the second half, while Paul Hinshelwood slotted in for Ryan Hill in defence.
Brighton also made changes - including the introduction of one of two subs who spent time at Nyewood Lane last season, defender Andy Pearson.
Clark was inches away from meeting a Hinshelwood cross three minutes into the half, but he failed to make contact as he slid in.
McLeod put Brighton 3-1 up in the 50th minute with a curling free kick that eluded Howe.
McLeod went for his hat-trick in spectacular fashion just before the hour was up, when he spotted Howe off his line from just inside his own half, but his 60-yard effort was too high.
Another former Rocks player, Sam Gargan, replaced Dixon in Brighton's third change.
On 63 minutes, Ryan Hirooka and Ben Johnson replaced Clark and Dutton-Black for the Rocks.
The game went a little quiet as the substitutions did their usual trick in friendlies of disrupting the flow of the play.
Dean Cox made the game safe for the visitors on 68 minutes when his run down the inside left channel ended in an easy finish past Howe.
Reuben French and Sam Pearce replaced Jupp and Paul Watson, though Pearce became Bognor's second No16 on the pitch with sub Johnson already wearing that number.
The Rocks chased everything but as the game entered its final stages, Brighton's superior fitness began to tell.
Smith shot just wide of Sullivan's near post three minutes from time after a powerful run into the box.
The Rocks did add respectability to the scoreline when a long-range shot by Fisher beat Sullivan a minute later.
The next friendly is at home to Conference national side Eastbourne Borough on Saturday (2pm).
