A total of 18 couples from the southern counties entered the annual ladies' open tennis tournament at Bognor Lawn Tennis Club.
For the morning session, pairs were divided into three round-robin mixed-ability groups and played all other pairs in their section – a total of 305 hard-fought games of consistently high-quality tennis.
During the lunch break, tournament organisers analysed the morning's results and regrouped the pairs into three ability-based sections.
The afternoon's competition proved equally as challenging, with a further 305 games played, and culminated in the presentation of prizes to the winning pairs from each section.
Overall winners of the tournament were Charlotte Hill and Sue Jackson, representing East Grinstead TC, who won an impressive 50 games out of a possible 70 over the course of the day.
Runners-up in the top group, with 40 games won, were Bognor TC player Maree Loversidge and partner Emma Kislingbury.
Group-two winners were Louise White and Jane Chase-Gardner, while Di Burroughs and Janet Dimmock achieved the highest game score total of the day to win group three.
