Middleton got their season off to the best possible start with a resounding eight-wicket victory over last season's champions.

Findon pipped Middleton to last year's title with victory in the last game.

The new-look Findon team is full of youth, and while it may take them a few games to find their feet, they certainly have some talent and potential.

Winning the toss,
Middleton put in their opponents and piled on the pressure early.

A superb opening burst from Brandon Hanley led to Findon's demise. He had Findon captain John Rogers superbly caught by Ben Hansford, and from then on Middleton picked up wickets at will.

Hanley was well-supported by slow bowler Matt Hansford, and between them they picked up eight wickets for 58.

Hanley was the star of the day, claiming six for 29, his best in senior cricket.

Findon's only real resistance came from youngster Charlie Foreman, who batted sensibly for 26 not out, but he was not able to find any sustained support from the tail, and the visitors were eventually bowled out for 73 from 31 overs.

Middleton fielded a new-look opening partnership who wasted no time in putting runs on the board.

Youngster Ben Hansford looked good in his first game back, scoring 22 before he was bowled by Vickerstaff.

Steve Collins, playing his first league game for the club, looked in great nick on his way to 37 before he fell just three runs from victory.

Stuart Nelmes struck the winning runs to cap a great start to the season.

* Middleton progressed to the regional quarter-finals of the National Village Cup with a 133-run victory over East Sussex League side Laughton.

The home side chose to bat and on a good deck, openers Chris Spedding and Joe Seaman added 95 for the first wicket.

Seaman looked superb in his 58 and Spedding top-scored with 60. Middle-order knocks from Lerwill, Hansford and Warren resulted in a strong total of 239 for six from 40 overs.

Laughton were never able to get up with the run rate, good line and length bowling from the Middleton attack thwarting them.

Brandon Hanley picked up another two wickets, as did Houchen and Rawstrone, leaving Lerwill to mop up the tail with three for nine.
Laughton was eventually dismissed for 106.
