WEST SUSSEX'S trio of teams visited Kent – with mixed results.

The Premier team were looking to consolidate their position at the top of the table and extend their lead over Kent, who have games in hand.

But they didn't play to their potential against a team eager to avenge their earlier defeat at Westerg
ate. In the morning, they managed one win in seven games and trailed 14-2 at lunch.

The afternoon started little better with one win in the third session but an improved performance from the triples and fours in the final session led to a final score of 30-10.

In the triples Lavant's Ray Harding won 13-8 after losing 11-7, while John Heasman and Peter Whale lost 11-10 and won 11-8. In the singles, Peter Winter lost 16-7 and 17-10.

The A team fared better, taking the first session 6-2 and sharing the points in the second to lead 10-6 at lunch.

Session three was a repeat of the first with West Sussex winning three of the four games, but they fell away in the final session, winning only one game for a final score of 24-16 and 182-177.

In the triples, Bognor's Derek Fair won 10-7 and lost 8-7, while club-mate Eric Jones, playing in a four with Lavant's Rob Peirce, won 10-6 and lost 16-7. In the other four, Bognor's Brenda Jones lost 11-4 and 13-3.

The B team played a friendly and with a weakened side, they were expecting to struggle.

In the morning, they shared the points for a lunchtime score of 8-8.

In the third session they took three of the four games, but Kent finished strongly to take all four games in the final session for a final score of 24-16 to closer than had been expected.

In the singles, Bognor's Freddie Kaucher won 21-6 and 16-7 while in the pairs, club-mates Gwen Coombes and Marlene Steel lost 17-10 and won 15-11.

In the triples, Lavant's John Simms and Bognor's Pam Smith won 11-10 and lost 12-7, while in the other triple, Crabland's Marie Nutt and Les Dray with Bognor's Betty Williams lost 14-4 and 12-7.

In the fours, Crabland's Ron Coombes lost 15-1 and 7-5.
