Bognor had to cling on for a draw as they and Billingshurst played their first games in the newly-formed Sussex League division three west.
Bognor captain Andy McGregor won the toss and decided to bowl, but Billingshurst openers John Burroughs and Pete Burroughs made a solid start to the innings, and neither Dammika Perera nor Jim Lee could make a breakthrough.

The introduction of Kevin McGuigan's off-spin took the wicket of John Burroughs, and he was well supported by John Young, who bowled with great discipline as the pair stifled the scoring well.

Some fine late bowling from Perera (2-26) removed Pete Burroughs for 58 and Mike Burroughs for 45, then Luke Seward took two late wickets as Bognor restricted Billingshurst to 203 for five from their 50 overs.

Bognor's reply started poorly as they lost Elliott Clarke and Glenn West cheaply.

However, Seward (21) and Max Ashmore (17) looked in good touch and went about repairing the Bognor innings until they fell in quick succession.

With a middle-order collapse, casued mainly by Andy Welfare (4-30), Bognor were facing a comprehensive defeat, but Lee, who batted bravely for 17 overs, and Andy McGregor kept their wickets intact as Bognor clung on for the draw, and finished their innings 92 for nine from their 45 overs.

Bognor have some hard work to do to compete at this level, but are a young, talented first XI who are capable of some very good cricket, and can take heart from this result as they got valuable experience against a team who finished 13 places above them last season.
