A better performance – now we just need the goals and points to go with it.

That was Mick Jenkins' assessment after Bognor lost their fourth game in five but came away from Eastleigh feeling a little unlucky not have claimed a draw.

Paul Watson's superb free-kick put the Rocks on level terms ten minutes into the second half, but Saturday's trick of letting in a goal soon after they had scored one came back to haunt them as they fell behind again minutes later.

The Rocks battled for an equaliser – even after going down to ten men when debut-making goalkeeper James Lester blotted his copybook with a red card for raising a hand in a spat with Spitfires striker Matt Groves – but ended up empty-handed.

Manager Jenkins said: "It was a far-improved performance but it's still earned us no points. Even their manager, Ian Baird, felt we were worth a draw.

"We dominated possession for a time when we were 1-0 down and deserved to draw level.

"It was a great strike that made it 2-1 but we're getting punished too often. We've got to learn quickly and I'm confident we will."
