Pagham were invited to bat first in both sides' first County League match.

Matt Gregory (53) and Chris Hayden put on 55 for the first wicket before both were caught trying to force the score.

The scoring rate changed dramatically with the entry of Matt Colban, who scored 50 in 29 balls. He was eventually caught when on 66.

Stuart Rutter batted steadily for 40 and Mike Hayles bustled a quick 34.

Pagham finished on 229-5 after 48 overs and gained maximum batting points.

In reply, Henfield made a good start and after 24 overs were 89 for the loss of one wicket.

The match swung Pagham's way with the introduction of Sean Rutter into the attack.

None of the Henfield batsmen could find an answer to his leg spin and he finished with five for 35.

Gregory, also bowling leg spin, backed up his 53 with a hat-trick, finishing with three for 19.

It was a satisfactory day for Pagham and a positive prelude to the 2008 season.
