Middleton's Holly Colvin helped England's women get their one-day cricket series against South Africa off to a winning start.

Colvin inspired England's women to a commanding 121-run win in the opening match of the one-day series at Canterbury.

The 18-year-old left-arm spinner took 3-17 from her 10 overs as the South Africans were bowled out for 133 over at the St Lawrence Ground.

Sarah Taylor and Claire Taylor both struck fifties as England posted 254-6.

The senior Taylor recorded seven fours in a 79-ball 83 before she was run out, but several players also contributed.

Sarah Taylor, another Sussex teenager, opened the innings and shared 99 with Caroline Atkins, before both were caught and bowled in quick succession.

Skipper Charlotte Edwards shared a century stand with the senior Taylor before she also fell victim to a return catch.

Only three South Africans reached double figures, with Colvin soon taking control.

Isa Guha and the leg-spin of Edwards also produced two wickets each.

The next match is at Lord's on Friday.
