Fishbourne Romans, the community-based football club, held their tournament and fun day at Fishbourne playing fields.

A record 180 children took part in the annual event, run by parent volunteers for four to 16-year-olds.

Six-a-side matches were held for different age groups on a Champions League theme.

Games were competitive but everyone got a medal – and an ice cream. Bouncy castles, a barbecue, face painting and good weather helped make it a success.

It was funded by £1 donations secured during the season in the club's pay-as-you-play basis.

Club chairman Kevin Carter said: "The club have gone from strength to strength over the past four years.

"While our invite to Sir Trevor Brooking to present the medals this year was reluctantly declined, we did receive an excellent letter of encouragement from him stressing how he supports such community non-competitive league schemes open to everyone of all abilities.

"We rely on donations to survive and constantly look for funding to ensure football at Fishbourne is accessible for all children."

A summer coaching camp is planned in the summer, but community football starts again on September 9.
