Selsey, Sidlesham and Wittering shape up for season
SELSEY kicked off pre-season with a 2-0 win over Petersfield Town.
Ross Woolf scored in the first minute to get the first team off to a cracking opening in a half in which they dominated most of the play.
Tom Ridley added a second after half an hour and the side provided a positive overall team performance.
After the interval, exuberance and skilful enthusiasm came from the young reserve side, strengthened by three first team players, who came out for the second half.
Not overawed, they managed to hold the visitors goalless in a contest they might have won.
Against Burgess Hill, Ridley opened the scoring in the first minute aided by a deflection.
The visitors soon levelled but Ridley put the Blues back in the lead before half-time.
Burgess Hill equalised two minutes from the end.
* Sidlesham hope they have found the missing link in their team.
The club were without a consistent goalscorer last season – not, as mistakenly reported at the end of the season, a consistent goalkeeper.
Now they have signed Nick Edgington, who spent last season in the Wessex League with Hayling.
They have also signed ex-Selsey and Barnham forward Dave Storey and former Selsey centre-half Dave Turner.
But Joe Briggs is having a trial with Southern League Andover.
Sidlesham travel to Moneyfields for a friendly next Tuesday before hosting Bosham on July 31 and Selsey on August 2.
* Wittering Football Club are holding their annual veterans' charity match against Chichester Hospitals' Old Boys on Sunday, August 3 at Wittering Sports Pavilion, Rookwood Rd, West Wittering (11am).
This year's charity is the Sussex Snowdrop Trust, which helps care for children with life-threatening and terminal illnesses.
The club hope to match, if not exceed, last year's fundraising total of £1,000.
Barbecue food will be on offer for anyone who goes along to support the event.
