THE night sky above Selsey will again be awash with a series of colours at the annual fireworks display this year – thanks to a local business.
Organisers the Selsey Fireworks Committee were devastated when the storage building housing all the much-needed equipment for the popular event was flooded in the recent storms.
It looked as though the event, which has wowed residents and visitors for nearly 30 years, might have to be called off.
Committee member Rosemary Harding said: "We have organised the Selsey Fireworks display for 28 years and each year we need to store more and more equipment which is essential to our display.
"When we found out we were no longer able to store it at our previous facility due to the flooding we really didn't know what to do."
But committee members were determined the show would go on and appealed to Natures Way Foods to store the large container housing the marquee, seats and safety equipment.
And the salad and fruit producers came up trumps – agreeing to store the equipment in the car park at its Park Farm headquarters.
Ms Harding said: "As Natures Way Foods is the largest business in the area, the committee decided to contact them to ask for help, and we were relieved when they said they would be able to step in.
"We are extremely grateful for their support – without them we would have had a major storage problem."
Sarah Baldock, head of marketing at Natures Way Foods, said: "When Rosemary contacted me and explained the problem we were more than happy to help.
"The Selsey Fireworks display is an important and much-loved local event within the community and we didn't want to see it under threat."
The display will be held on Saturday, October 18.
