Everything turned out blooming lovely for 12-year-old Chloe Montagnon – winner of Chichester In Bloom's 2008 'design a flowerbed' competition.
Chloe, a student at Chichester High School for Girls, produced an eyecatching design featuring geraniums, salvias and marigolds, donated by Tawny Nursery, which has been planted up in Priory Park.

It was officially opened by Cllr Nick Thomas, district council portfolio holder for culture and sport, just before the In Bloom judges paid a visit to the city last week.

The competition, run by the district council in partnership with the city council, attracted more than 160 entries, but Chloe's design came out on top with the Chichester In Bloom steering committee.

The bed features a plaque detailing Chloe's achievement, which will be presented to the student in the autumn after the summer display has come to an end.

Cllr Thomas said he was delighted so many young people took the time to enter the competition.

"We are always looking to involve the younger generation in our parks and green spaces, and Chloe's design certainly captured the eye of the committee," he added.

"With Chloe's help we are hoping for great success at this year's South East In Bloom awards."

Chloe was also on hand to meet South East In Bloom judges when they visited Chichester to judge the city's efforts in this year's competition.

Last year, Chichester won the best large town/small city award, narrowly missing out on gold and gaining a number of other high-profile awards for parks and neighbourhoods across the city.

This year the judges paid a visit to Priory Park, Jubilee Park Garden, Bishop's Palace Gardens, the main shopping areas, Brandy Hole Copse and many streets and roads on route

Neighbourhoods, including Whyke, King George Gardens, St James Square and Cowdray Court, Midhurst, and East Beach Pond, in Selsey, were judged separately.
